About Us

For twenty-five years, Family Alliance has provided the northern Illinois community with valuable eldercare services. If you or someone you know could benefit from our senior services, please contact our agency at 815-338-3590.

History

With a $1,000 budget and two volunteers, located in Grace Lutheran Church’s basement, Family Alliance Senior Day Care opened its doors in 1981 to serve two clients and received its not-for-profit status as the first and only day care service for senior citizens in McHenry County, Illinois.

In 1982, the Senior Counseling Program was established to respond to the needs of the growing senior population in McHenry County. Due to the increasing number of clients and services, Family Alliance relocated to Throop Street and remained there for eight years. During those years, the Day Health Program thrived, an Alzheimer’s Training program for other facilities and agencies was established, as well as the creation of an Alzheimer’s and Caregiver’s Support Group.

In 1990, the agency moved to a larger building located on Eastwood Drive to accommodate the increasing clients and specialized eldercare services. For the next six years, Family Alliance continued to grow in clients and programs. The Dementia Support Services, which provides in-home assessments and support, was created. In March of 1997, Family Alliance moved to its current location on North Seminary Avenue. This building was built to accommodate greater numbers of clients, families and services.

In 2006, a 3,900 square foot addition to this building was completed and houses our new Dementia Specific Day Program. This innovative, Montessori-approach program individually addresses the needs of the more cognitively impaired senior. With the addition of this new program and facility expansion, Family Alliance was able to increase its client capacity from 45 to 90 seniors served daily.

In 2007, Family Alliance will proudly have completed our Courtyard and Memory Garden area, which will enable the addition of our new Horticultural Therapy Program. Our outdoor therapy program and facilities will offer our clients environmental activities that will improve their physical, mental and social situations.

Throughout the twenty-five year history of Family Alliance, the staff has worked diligently to provide comprehensive and affordable eldercare services for the seniors and their caregivers throughout northern Illinois. The agency has, and continues to, acquire certifications, fulfill accreditations and increase our ability to serve seniors and their families.

Family Alliance, Inc. responds to seniors who have experienced situational, medical, or psychological situations that interfere with their ability to accomplish the tasks of daily living.

Our agency’s vision is to be positioned to meet the future demands of an accelerating senior population as a premier senior-care facility and a comprehensive training center for family caregivers and healthcare professionals.
